The elcrical system explained, ... simply
Reg-recs, = Regulator/rectefier
 

The generator sends power through the reg rec, the regulator stops too much power getting through to other parts of the system, the rectifier takes any excess and dumps it (usually as heat)
Most reg recs look like this
My Kawasaki, like most ZX10s is on the end of the external generator.
To check both these, you'll need a multi meter and you manual
